- ✓Targeted Root-Cause & Systemic Dosha Balancing
- ✓Supervised Panchakarma & Post-Therapy Care
In Sanskrit, Meru Danda refers to the spine (the central axis of the body), and Basti means to retain. Meru Basti is an advanced, intensive form of external oleation therapy where a continuous reservoir of hot, medicated oil is maintained over the entire length of the spinal column.
Unlike localized therapies like Kati Basti (lower back) or Greeva Basti (neck), Meru Basti treats the entire central nervous system superhighway simultaneously. It is reserved for severe, multi-level spinal disorders and profound Vata dosha derangements.
The continuous application of heavy, nourishing oils combined with steady thermotherapy across the entire spine forces the active phytocompounds into the deepest layers of the muscles, fascia, intervertebral discs, and spinal nerves. This massive influx of nourishment rapidly repairs degenerated cartilage, soothes inflamed nerves, and acts as a profound restorative for the entire body's structural integrity.

Core Therapeutic Advantages
- Comprehensive Disc Repair: Nourishes the entire spinal column simultaneously, making it highly effective for multi-level disc degeneration.
- Nerve Decompression: Reduces inflammation across the central nervous system pathway, relieving pinched nerves and severe radicular pain.
- Corrects Spinal Curvature: Relaxes deep para-spinal muscles, assisting in the management of scoliosis, kyphosis, and severe postural defects.
- Total Muscular Relaxation: Instantly dissolves massive back spasms and chronic muscular rigidity across the entire back.
- Neurological Rejuvenation: By calming the central nervous system, it aids in treating systemic Vata-related neuro-degenerative conditions.
- Boosts Spinal Immunity: Increases massive blood flow to the entire spinal cord, facilitating rapid tissue repair and spinal immunity.
Phased Treatment Procedure
Phase 1: Purvakarma
Extensive evaluation of the entire spinal column (Meru Danda) to locate areas of disc compression, scoliosis curvature, or severe Vata derangement.
A deeply relaxing, warm oil massage is administered across the entire length of the back to prep the spinal muscles and connective tissues.
Mild herbal steam is swept across the back to dilate pores, preparing the entire spinal channel for massive oil absorption.
Phase 2: Pradhana Karma
A vast, elongated boundary made of black gram (Urad dal) dough is constructed to enclose the entire length of the spine — from the cervical (neck) down to the lumbosacral (tailbone) region.
A large volume of customized, hot medicated oil is poured into the spinal reservoir, completely submerging the entire spinal column in healing herbal extract.
The oil is kept consistently warm for 45 to 60 minutes. Therapists continuously cycle out cooling oil, replacing it with hot oil to maintain a steady, deeply penetrating therapeutic temperature.
Phase 3: Pashchatkarma
The massive volume of oil is carefully sponged out, and the long dough boundary is removed. The back is cleaned with warm towels.
A soothing post-therapy massage using the residual oil is performed along the para-spinal muscles to lock in the therapeutic heat and herbal benefits.
The patient must undergo strict bed rest for a period following the therapy. Bending, twisting, and exposure to cold are strictly prohibited.
