How to Prepare for Nadi Pariksha: Your Appointment Checklist

Preparing for Nadi Pariksha starts with organising your health information, confirming any appointment instructions and writing down what you want to discuss. Bring your existing reports and medicine details, and do not change prescribed treatment simply to prepare for a pulse examination.

Nadi Pariksha is a traditional Ayurvedic pulse assessment used within a wider consultation. For an explanation of the method and its limitations, read our guide to Ayurvedic pulse examination.

Before booking: confirm what the appointment includes

Ask the clinic which physician is available, which branch to attend and whether any preparation is required for your particular visit. Clarify the consultation fee and whether a separate assessment or procedure would involve an additional charge.

If you are specifically interested in a digital pulse recording, ask whether it is available at your chosen branch and appointment time. Do not assume every Nadi Pariksha appointment includes a device assessment or printed report. Our Nadi Tarangini report guide explains that separate topic.

What should you bring?

Keep the following together in a folder or accessible on your phone:

BringUseful details
Current prescriptionsMedicine names, doses and how often you take them
Supplements and other remediesPackaging photographs or labels if names are unclear
Relevant medical recordsRecent reports, specialist advice and discharge summaries
A short symptom noteYour main concern, when it started and what has changed
Your questionsPut the most important concern firstsk about food, medicines and timing

Confirm whether the physician has any instructions about meals, caffeine or physical activity. Avoid relying on a universal fasting rule found online: requirements may differ, particularly when another test or procedure is scheduled.

Do not skip meals, restrict water or withhold medicines just to obtain a different pulse reading. If fasting is requested and you take medicines that depend on meal timing, ask the treating clinician how to prepare safely.

Allow enough travel time to arrive without rushing. Wear clothing that allows comfortable access to the wrist. Tell the physician about recent exercise, illness or changes in your routine rather than trying to hide them.

During the consultation: share the full picture

Explain your symptoms before discussing what you hope a pulse assessment will show. Mention previous diagnoses, treatment responses, allergies and any recent changes in medicines.

If an Ayurvedic product or procedure is suggested, ask how it fits with your existing care. Sharing complementary treatments with your healthcare providers helps them coordinate care; necessary conventional assessment should not be delayed. See NCCIH's guidance on Ayurvedic medicine.

Questions to ask before you leave

  • What is the next step for my main concern?
  • Do I need any investigation or another specialist's assessment?
  • If treatment is proposed, what is its purpose and what are its limitations?
  • What precautions or interactions should I discuss with my prescribing doctor?
  • When should I return, and what changes should I report earlier?

Ask for unclear instructions to be explained before leaving. A consultation should help you understand the proposed next step; it does not automatically mean you need medicines, Panchakarma or a treatment package.
